Kettra: Habit Tracker
On first launch
When you open Kettra for the first time, you see three welcome cards:
- Chain: What a chain is and why it matters
- Rules: How the app decides when a chain breaks
- Start: An invitation to create your first habit
At the bottom you can go through each card with Next or skip them. The last card offers you to create a habit right away, or you can just open the app. The welcome cards appear only on the very first launch.
Main screen: Today
The Today view is the home page. It shows:
- A date at the top with the day of the week (Monday, June 3)
- The title "Today" next to a counter (for example "3/5"), showing how many of the due habits you have already ticked off
- A list with two sections:
Due today lists all habits you should do today. Each shows:
- A symbol (for example a checkmark or light bulb) representing the habit
- The name
- A chain badge with your current chain length
- A period indicator showing whether the habit is daily, weekly, or multiple times per week
Tap a habit to count it up by one. The symbol becomes coloured, and the chain number rises. If multiple ticks per day are due, a counter shows instead of a checkmark (for example "2/3").
Today free shows habits you do not need to do today because they are not scheduled or are currently paused.
Context menu
Long press on a habit or tap the menu icon (three dots, if visible) to get the context menu:
- Count up or Plus counter: Counts the habit up by one
- Count down or Minus counter: Counts down by one (only if the counter is greater than 0)
- Clear day or Circle with X: Sets the day's count to zero (only if the counter is greater than 0)
- Edit: Opens the habit editor for this habit
Creating a new habit
Tap the Plus button or New Habit on the Today screen.
Name
Enter a name for your habit (for example "Drink water", "Medicine"). The name is required.
Schedule
Choose how often the habit should be due:
- Daily: Every day the same
- Weekdays: Only on the weekdays you choose (for example Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
- Times per week: For example 3 times per week. The chain then counts weeks rather than days, and the app tells you by Saturday or Sunday whether you have already reached your weekly goal
If you choose weekdays, tap each day of the week to toggle it on or off.
Daily target
A slider to set how many times you need to fulfil the habit per day (1 to 20). This is relevant if the habit requires multiple ticks per day (for example "Medicine morning and evening").
Reminders
Set reminders for this habit:
Reminder times: Tap a time to change it, or tap the minus sign to remove it. Tap Add Reminder to add more reminders. You can have multiple reminders per habit.
Adaptive reminder: If this is turned on, the app moves the reminder to when you are likely to do the habit (based on your past times). This is off by default.
Streak warning: A notification on the day your chain would break if you do not act. Set the time for this.
Pause
If no pause is set, you see "Set a pause". Tap it to open two date pickers:
- Pause from: The first day of the pause
- Pause to: The last day of the pause
The pause automatically starts today and ends six days later. You can change these dates.
If a pause is already set, you see the current pause range (for example "Sept 3 to Sept 10") and an "End pause" button that ends it immediately.
Appearance
Choose a symbol from a row of SF Symbols (for example checkmark, light bulb, heart). The selected ones are highlighted in colour.
Then choose a colour. Available colours are: Amber (default), Red, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, Gray.
Save
Tap Save at the top right to create or update the habit. The button is greyed out if the name is empty or you selected weekday schedule without choosing any weekdays.
Delete (only when editing)
If you are editing an existing habit, tap Delete at the bottom. A confirmation asks before the habit and its history are deleted.
Week view
Tap Week in the navigation (if available) or swipe left.
The Week view shows each habit as a row with a chain of days. Each link (square) represents a day:
- Yellow or Amber: The day was fulfilled
- Empty (hollow square): The day was due but not fulfilled
- Red and dashed: The day was due and missed (the chain broke)
- Gray and empty: The day was not due (you had that day free)
- Gray and transparent: A paused day (a pause is running)
The chain ends with today and reaches back as far as fits on screen.
Below the habit rows you see a summary: how many habits this week reached a complete goal, how many partially, and how many completely missed.
Interacting with the Week view
Tap: Counts the habit up by one for that day (like on the Today view).
Long press on a habit row: Opens the context menu to edit or delete the habit.
Long press on a day in the chain: Opens a menu to fill in the day, count down, or clear it:
- Fill in: Marks the day as if it met its daily target
- Count down: Reduces the counter by one
- Clear: Sets the day's count to zero
With these actions you can correct old days if you missed one or entered it wrong.
Editing or deleting a habit
Tap a habit and choose Edit from the menu, or open the habit directly from the editor if it is being edited.
Change any fields (name, schedule, reminders, etc.). Changes are saved immediately when you tap Save.
To delete the habit, tap Delete at the bottom of the editor. A confirmation is shown.
Stats and Milestones
The Stats view shows how consistent you have been (if this feature is available). It typically shows:
- The longest chain length for each habit
- The current chain length
- Percentages or other summaries
Milestones are notifications for chain milestones (for example 30 days, 100 days).

Notes and Shortcuts
Kettra optionally supports notes on each day of a habit. Long pressing a day in the Week view may give you the option to add a note (if this feature is available).
Some workflows (Shortcuts) can also control Kettra, such as ticking off habits.
When something goes wrong
The app crashes
Note the steps that led to the crash and write them in an email to maximilian.kuchlbauer@gmail.com. Please also state which iPhone model you have and which iOS version is installed.
Reminders are not arriving
Check in Settings whether notifications are enabled for Kettra (Settings > Notifications > Kettra). If they are disabled, tap Open Settings to enable them.
Make sure you have also set reminder times for the habit (in habit editing, Reminders section).
The chain is wrong
Check the days in the Week view. Each day shows whether it was fulfilled (yellow), missed (red) or not due (gray). If a day is wrong, long press it and correct it.
I cannot save
The Save button is greyed out if:
- The habit name is empty
- You selected a weekday schedule without choosing any weekdays
Fill in these fields and try again.
I accidentally deleted something
There is no undo function. If you deleted a habit or a day entry, you can only recreate it manually. Export your data regularly to back it up.
