Frequently Asked Questions
How does meal logging work?
The app supports three ways to log meals:
- Photo: Take a photo of your meal. The AI recognizes what it sees and estimates calories, protein, carbs, and fats.
- Text: Describe the meal in natural language (e.g., "pasta with bolognese sauce"). The AI calculates the nutritional values.
- Voice: Dictate the description (e.g., using your iPhone's dictation feature).
The displayed nutritional values are AI estimates based on standard portions. For accurate nutritional information, please consult product packaging or a certified nutrition database.
What does the app cost?
FoodNoteBook is free. With the free plan, you can log up to 3 entries per day (meals and exercises counted together).
With Premium, you can log unlimited entries, view detailed analytics, track your body weight and goals, track habits, and get priority support. Premium costs 3.99 EUR per month or 29.99 EUR per year.
Where is my data stored?
Your meals and metrics are stored on FoodNoteBook's servers and linked to your account. When you log a meal by photo or text description, the photo or text is sent to an AI service to calculate the nutritional estimate. The complete list of recipients of your data is in the Privacy Policy.
How do I export my data?
The iPhone app currently has no export function. If you need a copy of your data, send a message to maximilian.kuchlbauer@gmail.com and request a data backup. You will receive your meals, measurements, and other data as a CSV file.
Alternatively, you can export your data in the web version at foodnotebook.org by signing in, going to Settings, and clicking "Export Data".
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account in the web version: sign in at foodnotebook.org, go to Settings > Danger Zone, and click "Delete Account". This permanently deletes all your meals, measurements, and entries and cannot be undone.
You can also send a message to maximilian.kuchlbauer@gmail.com requesting account deletion if you prefer not to delete it yourself.
How do I cancel Premium?
You can cancel anytime in Settings > Premium > Cancel Subscription. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period. The billing period will not renew.
How do I restore purchases?
If you have reinstalled the app or switched to a new device: go to Settings > Premium and tap "Restore Purchases". This checks with Apple which subscriptions are connected to your Apple ID and restores them.
I paid for Premium but don't see Premium features. What can I do?
First, try choosing "Restore Purchases" (see above). If that doesn't work, report this through the support form. If you want to request a refund for a subscription, you can submit that at https://reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple manages your subscription and refunds.
Can I use FoodNoteBook on multiple devices?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on multiple devices, and your meals and measurements will sync.
How does Apple Health integration work?
You can connect FoodNoteBook to Apple Health to automatically sync your body weight. Go to Settings > Apple Health > Connect Apple Health. The app only reads your weight and does not write other data to Apple Health.
Can I track habits?
Yes, with Premium. On the Dashboard, you can see and check off your daily habits. The app tracks your consistency over time.
What happens if I delete the app?
Your data remains on our server and is not lost. If you reinstall the app and sign in with the same Apple ID, your data will be restored.
The app isn't working correctly. How can I help?
Try the following:
- Close the app completely and reopen it.
- Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
- Check Settings > General > Storage to confirm you have enough free space.
- If the error persists, report it through the support form with as much detail as possible.
